Netgear's products cover a variety of widely used technologies such as wireless (WiFi and LTE), Ethernet and powerline, with a focus on reliability and ease-of-use. The products include wired and wireless devices for broadband access and network connectivity, and are available in multiple configurations to address the needs of the end-users in each geographic region and sector in which the company's products are sold.
The Objective
Humdinger & Sons is a creative agency that is a regular with Netgear and they create a vast amount of visual content for them throughout they year. That content typically ranges from simpler studio shots all the way to placing products in interior or exterior environments such as living rooms or house facades.
For this particular project however Humdinger & Sons wanted to create something different for Netgear. Something that would work in contrast with the established visuals that they are currently creating for them. So the goal here was not to replace the existing content but to supplement it with eye catching, stand out pieces that would help the company garner extra impressions.
And that is where I come in as Humdinger & Sons entrusted me with the entire image creation process - from defining the concepts to the actual execution.
My self imposed limitations were focused on Netgear's brand identity which is visually speaking primarily focused around darker monochromatic tones with some blue accents. I wanted to transform that visual theme into pieces that will stay true to the brand yet catch a viewer's eye with interesting compositional elements.
Due to knowing some of the inner workings at Netgear and their design principles, I also focused on catching a nice balance between creating something completely avant-garde and something that is more laid back yet still dazzles the eye. Given that Netgear is a well established player in the networking market, it was important to strike that balance in a way that it doesn't alienate their current customers.
